WASHINGTON – The National Grange today launched a national advertising campaign to highlight the potential impact of proposed Medicaid cuts on the 12 million rural Americans who rely on Medicaid for access to healthcare.
“Medicaid is truly indispensable for rural Americans, who work tirelessly to keep American agriculture running, but often without receiving traditional employer benefits in return,” said Christine Hamp, President of the National Grange. “Farming is one of the most dangerous jobs in the U.S., and rural Americans face unique challenges in accessing healthcare. Our lawmakers should prioritize policies that support and protect these communities, including preserving access to vital programs like Medicaid.”
The new campaign is being launched amid newly proposed Medicaid cuts from Congress that the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates will reduce the number of people with health insurance by at least 8.6 million. To make matters worse, uncertainty over the future of the enhanced premium tax credits is already leaving rural Americans with even fewer choices for affordable coverage.
Contrasted with President Trump’s commitment to not cutting Medicaid, the ad includes a call to action for elected officials in Congress to protect Medicaid.
Medicaid is an essential program that provides healthcare access for rural Americans, many of whom lack access to traditional employer-provided health insurance. It’s also an integral source of funding for rural hospitals that depend on Medicaid dollars to stay open and continue treating not only patients covered by Medicaid, but also every patient, including those who are uninsured or underinsured.
Cuts to Medicaid would devastate rural communities across the country, potentially leaving millions of rural Americans without access to healthcare and forcing already-struggling rural hospitals to close their doors.
